Restoring Brain Function to Improve Mood
I’ve been seeing a great deal of success in clients using the Better Balance “Brain Recovery System" for mood and memory issues, addiction, and other brain imbalances. These targeted nutritional formulas aid in rebuilding brain cells, restoring neurotransmitters and enhancing mind, mood and memory.

Continuing Education
I spent most of May attending a series of exciting, information-filled integrative medicine conferences. I started with ACAM (American College for Advancement in Medicine) in Chicago, also a fine source of doctors who practice integrative medicine around the country. There I attended a Board meeting where we addressed the importance of educating other physicians and informing the public about natural means of treating illness.

The conference program included some excellent presentations, including Dr. Burt Berkson’s research on the use of Alpha Lipoic Acid in treating liver disease, including liver failure; Dr. Beatrice Golomb on the dangerous side effects of stain drugs, including depletion of Coenzyme Q10, and Dr. Ken Bock on his recently released book, Healing the New Childhood Epidemics.

I also spent quality time with the representatives of supplement companies and compounding pharmacists that I use in my practice, some of whom I’ve known for years as common pioneers in this field.

I also attended the 14th Annual International symposium on Functional Medicine, which teaches health practitioners that, rather than simply treating symptoms, we must focus on the function and interactions of the various systems of the body and treat as safely and naturally as possible. Attended by over 700 physicians and other health practitioners, the theme was the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal-thyroid axis, and how it affects many chronic illnesses.

There were many enriching presentations, including by the Institute’s founder, Jeff Bland PhD on the thyroid-adrenal axis, then by neurologist Jay Lombard, DO, and Physiology and biophysics professor, Michael Lumpkin PhD, and President, David Jones M.D. who elegantly showed the relationships among all the body systems and the environment.

James Gordon M.D., Founder and Director of the Center for Mind-Body Medicine spoke about his work with groups in war-torn areas such as Kosovo, Bosnia and the Middle East, to help them heal their unbelievable trauma.

The most important message to pass on from this conference is the important role that stress and the mind body connection play in all chronic illnesses. Prevention and recovery involve both replenishing the missing nutrients depleted by stress, and, through various mind-body techniques, calming the mind, which allows it to direct your body in a more healing direction.

One tool that I have found to be extremely useful in this regard, inducing a relaxed state, and allowing healing to occur is The Wild Divine. It’s latest program, Healing Rhythms, features Drs. Deepak Chopra and Andrew Weil. It's easy, fun, and healing at the same time.

The Journey to Wild Devine is a unique training program that uses biofeedback to teach breathing and meditation techniques for a healthier mind and body. It's the perfect addition to your daily wellness program.

"The Journey to Wild Divine allows people to influence
what is happening in their body, in their mind,
and the world they create everyday."

- Deepak Chopra, M.D.

The Truth About Electropollution
In early June I spent a weekend in Carlsbad, CA taking a remarkable course taught by the Dr. George Carlo, director of the Safe Wireless Initiative (Dr. George Carlo EMF Cell Phone Dangers Interview). As a physician, I felt responsible to find out for myself once and for all what the issues and answers were on this hot topic that affects us all. I also knew that even if we’re not using cell phones, we are exposed to electropollution, so the issue has become even more pressing. What I discovered was alarming, to say the least, and led me to search for solutions. For more information, research, and solutions, click here.

I encourage all of you to share this newsletter and the information in it with your friends and family, so we are not simply a nation of pill-poppers for every medical problem.

Have a great summer!

Yours in good health,
